If you’re a young African leader looking for a fully funded scholarship for African youth 2026, the One Young World Leading Scholarship deserves a spot at the top of your list. It covers your flights, hotel, and meals to attend one of the world’s biggest gatherings of young leaders — this time held right here on the continent, in Cape Town, South Africa.

What Is the One Young World

Leading Scholarship? One Young World is a UK-based charity that brings together young leaders from nearly 200 countries for its annual Summit. The Leading Scholarship is theorganisation’s flagship award, created specifically to support outstanding young leaders from countries that are often under-represented at global forums and decision-making spaces — which includes much of Southern and Eastern Africa.

The 2026 Summit takes place 3–6 November 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa.

What’s Covered (Fully Funded)

Selected scholars receive:

  • Full delegate access to the One Young World Summit in Cape Town
  • Hotel accommodation from 2–6 November 2026
  • Daily catering (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • Return travel to and from Cape Town (your outbound and return flights must use the same airport)
  • Lifetime membership in the One Young World
  • Ambassador Community — a network of more than 20,000 young leaders across 196 countries
  • Access to exclusive Ambassador opportunities: speaking events, regional networking, and mentoring sessions
  • The chance to carry your country’s flag at the Opening Ceremony

Who Can Apply

  • Applicants must be aged 18 to 35
  • Open worldwide, but priority goes to applicants from countries under-represented at previous Summits — a strong advantage for many African applicants
  • Priority is also given to first-time Summit attendees (not returning One Young World Ambassadors)
  • You should be able to show real, demonstrated leadership or impact in your community, country, or field — this is a competitive, merit-based scholarship, not a lottery

Deadline: Rolling — Apply as Early as Possible

This is important: the Leading Scholarship does not work like a typical one-shot deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with selected candidates notified by email between June and October 2026. Multiple sources tracking the program cite a final cut-off around 31 October 2026, but because review is rolling, spots can fill before that date. There is no benefit to waiting — apply now.

A Word on Travel and Visas

The Summit is being held in Cape Town, South Africa; a shorter and generally more affordable trip for most African applicants than a Europe- or US-based Summit would be. That said, depending on your passport, you may still need a South African visa to attend. As this is a fully funded scholarship for African youth, One Young World covers your flights and hotel, but if a visa is required, you are responsible for the visa fee yourself. Check your home country’s visa requirements for South Africa early, in case an embassy appointment or processing time is needed.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the official scholarship page: https://www.oneyoungworld.com/scholarship/leading-scholarship-2026
  2. Review the full eligibility criteria and read One Young World’s application guidance before you start
  3. Submit your application through the official portal linked from that page.
  4. Focus your application on measurable impact — clearly explain the problem you’re addressing, the concrete actions you’ve taken, the results so far, and how attending the Summit would help you scale that impact

Note: You may apply to more than one One Young World scholarship, but you can only be awarded one.

Why This One Is Worth Prioritising

  •  A fully funded scholarship for African youth 2026, with no hidden costs beyond a possible visa fee
  • Run by a well-established, credible organization with a long track record of global Summits
  • Hosted on the African continent, cutting travel time and cost compared to most international leadership summits
  • Builds a long-term global network, not just a one-off trip. Ambassadors stay connected for mentoring, collaboration, and future opportunities, including pathways into other One Young World grants of up to $25,000 for scholars in later cohorts.

Always apply directly through the official One Young World website. Negus Chronicles does not process applications and cannot guarantee selection outcomes— verify all details on the official page before applying.
